If you are a fan of vaporization then you are most likely familiar with the Pax by Ploom dry herb vaporizer. If you don’t already own one, you probably have plans to get your hands on one at some point. Ploom released the Pax several years ago to great acclaim. The Pax was touted as being the iPhone of vaporizers and considered to be the very best portable vaporizer available.
Now enter the Pax 2. The Pax 2 takes all the best parts of the original — the sleek design, the brushed metal finish, the easy-to-use, push-button interface and takes them to the next level. The Pax 2 is about 25% smaller and 10% lighter than the original, and yet it features a deeper oven for heating up material more evenly.
The Pax 2 is more efficient than the original, with up to 30% longer battery life. It now has four different temperature settings instead of three, and it’s added some smart motion and lip-sensing technology to know when the vape is actually in use, so it doesn’t unnecessarily overheat your tobacco or dry herb material. The Pax 2 comes in four new vibrant colors; Black, Topaz (Aqua), Flare (Red), and Platinum (Silver).
The Pax 2 is now available for pre-sale at Cirrus Smoke Shop for $279 MSRP, and will be available for in-store sales early April 2015. As SW Florida’s only authorized Pax retailer, we will always have a complete line of Pax replacement parts and supplies in stock and you can rest assured that you will have the peace of mind from Pax 2’s 10 year warranty and exceptional manufacturer customer service. Stay tuned for further details and a video demonstration right here on our blog.

At Cirrus Smoke Shop, we carry a complete line of the worlds best vaporizers. This includes several types of vaporizer including Table Top, Portable, Convection and Conduction. Many people who have never tried a vaporizer ask us “What is the difference between vaporization and good old fashion combustion?” We hope that this article will help you make sense of it all.
For starters a vaporizer is a device used to release the active nutrients of plant matter by releasing it’s therapeutic compounds. Vaporization is a healthier alternative to smoking because vaporizers heat the material at a much lower temperature (when compared to lighting the plant with a direct flame and smoking it) so that the active compounds and nutrients contained in the plant material produce an aromatic vapor (instead of smoke). Cirrus carries both convection and conduction vaporizers to suit your specific needs. Two examples would include the Pax by Ploom which is a conduction vaporizer and the Firefly a convection devise.
When herbs are burnt the plant material can produce numerous harmful by-products. Vaporization contains virtually zero particulate matter and significantly reduced noxious gases. By avoiding combustion (smoke), you are able to achieve the same desired effects or any given herb without the harmful side-effects of combusting and smoking it.
Vaporization allows you to utilize a variety of substances, including dry herbs, concentrates extracted from the herbs and e-liquids. The material you wish to vaporize will determine which type of vaporizer you should choose, because most vaporizers are designed for specific use to the substance that you wish to vaporize.
This makes choosing a particular model of vaporizer an important decision based on the material you plan on vaporizing most often. While most vaporizers have been designed to be specifically compatible with one material, multi-compatible devises are becoming more common. These units generally have separate heating chambers for each style of material that will be vaporized. A great example of this is the all new Haze Vaporizer. The Haze is the first of its kind portable dual use vaporizer, allowing you to vaporize dry herbs or concentrated material extracted from the herbs.
The temperature setting of the vaporizer is key to achieving the most efficient vapor production. There is a range in which the herb will begin to release its active ingredients and if the herb is not warm enough, no vapor forms. Alternatively if the temperature rises too far, the herb will burn (or combust) and defeat the entire purpose of vaporization, which is to eliminate smoke and odor.
Monitoring the temperature throughout the process of vaporization prevents the material from being overheated, which leads to combustion and smoke. Once herb has been vaporized the remains should be crispy and a brownish in color, NOT ash. If the leftover product is black or burned, you should select a lower temperature.
The standard temperature range for vaporizing dry herb is between 350° and 390°, however each vaporizer is different and has their own an optimal temperature. Finding the perfect temperature takes a little bit of trial and error because it can vary with the specific material being vaporized. Drier herb will begin vaporizing at a lower temp, whereas a moister herbs will need more heat to produce vapor.
We always recommend starting at a lower temperature and slowly raising it to release a range of effects as different active ingredients vaporize off with each increase. Everyone has their own personal preference. While many choose to begin with a lower temperature and taking long slow draws others still prefer a warmer vape.
A key piece to the vaporization puzzle is a good grinder. All vaporizers function best when the herbs are finely ground, because it increases the surface area of your herbs. This allows for better airflow as the heat travels through your herbs. While plastic and wood grinders will do the job, a good metal grinder is always more efficient and durable.
Your desired power source will also be a factor in choosing your vaporizer. Most portable vaporizers use either rechargeable batteries or butane. Table top vaporizers like the Silver Surfer, Arizer Extreme Q, Volcano and Easy Vape are plugged directly into a wall outlet. While a butane vaporizer like the Iolite Whisper can allow you the freedom from electricity, Battery powered vaporizers tend to be more efficient. Portables like the Pax, Firefly, Arizer Solo, Da Vinci and G-Pen Pro all have relatively quick charge times, usually under 2 hours. Some models like the Haze and Magic Flight Launch Box feature removable batteries that give the advantage of having spare charged batteries, while most portable vaporizers are designed with internal batteries that are not able to be removed.
Price can also be a factor. Vaporizers range from around $100 to $700 depending on make and model. Quality table top models usually cost between $200 – $700, while most recommended portables are usually in the $100 – $300 range. In my experience there are not a lot of vaporizers under $100 that will function at the level most people would find acceptable.
Whichever vaporizer you decide will work best for you it is extremely important to be sure that you are getting an authentic original equipment manufactured (OEM) product. China has managed to “knock off” just about every vaporizer on the market. These knock offs can be impossible to recognize for the untrained eye. In many cases such as the Pax, Firefly and Haze online sales are prohibited, so you can safely assume that if you find one on ebay or Amazon it’s a fake. A knock off version may save you a few bucks in the beginning, but with no warranty or customer support will leave you in the dark when it fails. Cirrus Smoke Shop takes pride in only carrying “OEM” products. You will never find a knock off on our shelves.
Our staff has several years experience with vaporizers so please feel free to stop by or call us with all of your vaporizer questions.
Cirrus Smoke Shop – Fort Myers, Florida
While conceptualizing Cirrus Smoke Shop we decided very early on that we would highlight as many talented American glass artists as possible. We wanted to get started right out of the gate with a Florida artist and so after finding and marveling at the incredible work being done by East Koast Glass in Port Saint Lucie, Florida we knew we had found our first featured artist. We are currently featuring a wide variety of examples from the East Koast Glass gallery. Oil Rigs, Flower Tubes, Spoons and Sherlocks all in brilliant colors and designs are currently available at our showroom.
The genius behind East Koast Glass begins with Sean Hegeman. His attention to quality and detail are evident in every piece. Going on 14 years of Glass Blowing Sean had a head start when he got to help and work in the Colorado Project. Starting in 1999 Glass Blowing has evolved into a mastery of art. Now living in South Florida Sean owns his own glass studio where he masterminds all his greatest creations.
Throughout the years Sean developed master skills in Fume and Giant Marble work collaborating with famous artists like Elbo, Snic, N8, NIB, Merc, RayBaby and countless more.
